CAASPP and ELPAC: Print on Demand Process and CARS Updates
CAASPP email update, January 9, 2023.
Dear LEA CAASPP Coordinator or LEA ELPAC Coordinator:
Print on Demand Requests
Starting January 10, 2023, there will be a new process to assign the print on demand accessibility resource to one or more students.
An LEA coordinator will no longer email the LEA's Success Agent to request the print on demand accessibility resource for a student. Instead, an LEA coordinator must download and complete the print on demand Excel template then email it to CAFeedback@ets.org to submit a request for one or more students who require this resource. The Excel spreadsheet template has a tab with instructions and a tab for entering students' information.
The coordinator must enter information about one student per row, per program (CAASPP or ELPAC). If a student needs the print on demand resource for both the CAASPP (accommodation) and ELPAC (designated support), the coordinator must enter the same student information into separate rows for each program. For the CAASPP, the student's settings in TOMS must include Special Education for Testing or 504 Plan settings as "Yes," because print on demand is an accommodation.
Please allow up to seven business days for the print on demand test setting to be applied, depending on the size and accuracy of the file. This timeline depends on an error-free file.
Crisis Alert Response System (CARS)
Starting January 10, 2023, a [CARS] tab will be displayed in the navigation bar in TOMS and a widget will be displayed on the TOMS home page. In the coming weeks, CARS will replace the current process of how an LEA is notified about crisis alert responses (previously named "alert papers"), which are student responses that warrant an LEA's immediate attention, such as when a student suggests having experienced some kind of physical or emotional abuse, neglect, self-harm, or that the student may cause harm to others or is experiencing severe distress.
While the [CARS] tab will be visible to LEA CAASPP and LEA ELPAC coordinators, it will not be used for coordinators to receive notifications until a future date. An email will be sent to LEA coordinators describing CARS and providing the date when CARS will be activated. For the time being, notifications about crisis alert responses will be sent using the current process of emailing primary coordinators and superintendents.
