CAASPP: Test Administrator Tutorial Available Now!
CAASPP email update, January 12, 2023.
Dear Primary LEA CAASPP Coordinator:
The CAASPP Test Administrator Tutorial is now available.
The Test Administrator Tutorial covers all the basic information needed to prepare test administrators to administer the Smarter Balanced Summative Assessments for English language arts/literacy and mathematics, the California Science Test, and the California Spanish Assessment. This tutorial does not contain any secure content.
LEA CAASPP coordinators are responsible for providing training to test administrators and have flexibility on how the Test Administrator Tutorial can be offered to test administrators.
The three options for providing training to test administrators are as follows:
Option 1: Use Moodle
Similar to 2021–22, LEA CAASPP coordinators can provide test administrators with access to the Moodle Training Site (Moodle) . Using Moodle, LEA CAASPP coordinators can track test administrators' completion of the training. If this tutorial will be offered to test administrators in an LEA, the LEA CAASPP coordinator should, in addition, provide local and relevant testing information. The benefits to using Moodle are the feature for test administrators to receive a certificate of completion and for LEA trainers to track training completion of test administrators.
Please refer to the access code and enrollment key instructions provided further in this email.
Option 2: Use the CAASPP Website
Based on feedback from LEA CAASPP coordinators, the Test Administrator Tutorial is also easily accessible without using Moodle on the new CAASPP Test Administrator Tutorial web page posted publicly on the CAASPP website. If selecting this option, the LEA CAASPP coordinator should, in addition, provide local and relevant testing information. Using this option requires LEA CAASPP coordinators to develop a local process for tracking test administrators' completion of the training.
Option 3: Provide Locally Developed Training
The LEA CAASPP coordinator could instead train test administrators using locally developed materials.
Moodle Information for Option 1
Moodle User Accounts
If selecting option 1, a Moodle user account is necessary to access the tutorial. Individuals who already have accounts do not need to create new ones. User accounts can be created individually by users through the Moodle logon web page or in bulk by the LEA CAASPP coordinator.
To create Moodle user accounts in bulk (which can be done only by the primary LEA CAASPP coordinator), take the following steps:
- Navigate to the Moodle Training Site User Guide
.
- Download the Moodle User Account Template located under the LEA Coordinator Moodle User Account Template step.
- Email the completed template to moodlesupport@scoe.net.
Moodle Enrollment Key
The LEA CAASPP coordinator is responsible for distributing the LEA's unique Moodle enrollment key to the appropriate staff.
Enrollment Key: <enrollment key>
LEA coordinators can use the CAASPP Test Administrator Moodle Letter Template and the Moodle Access At-A-Glance guide to assist them in communicating to staff.
Moodle Completion Reports
The LEA CAASPP coordinator can request access to view reports and monitor test administrator certificates of completion. This access may be granted to additional staff members as needed.
To request reporting access, take the following steps:
- Identify the personnel who require reporting access, including yourself if needed.
- Navigate to the CAASPP-ELPAC AST
website.
- Enter the access code for <LEA>: <passcode>
- Select the [CAASPP Moodle Training Site] button.
- Submit the appropriate trainer names and email addresses and select the [Save] button. Allow at least two business days to activate accounts.
For instructions on monitoring CAASPP Test Administrator Tutorial completion status, refer to the Monitoring Training Completion Status chapter of the Moodle Training Site User Guide within Moodle.
Direct any questions about the CAASPP Test Administrator Tutorial to moodlesupport@scoe.net . LEA CAASPP coordinators should direct all other questions to their LEA Success Agent.
Sincerely,
California Outreach Team
