CAASPP: Planning Ahead with the 2021–22 CAA for Science Administration Planning Guides
CAASPP email update, July 2, 2021.
Dear California Educator:
The 2021–22 California Alternate Assessment (CAA) for Science Administration Planning Guides for grades five and eight and high school can be found on the California Alternate Assessments web page. Version assignments for 2021–22 testing can be found on the CAA for Science Version Assignments by Name or CDS Code web page and are organized, local educational agency (LEA), and school. All grade levels within a school will have the same version assignment, which may be different from last year's assignment.
Each planning guide provides LEAs and test examiners with the following:
- Assessed standards (i.e., Science Connectors)
- A planning template to assist in the preparation to administer each embedded performance task (PT) throughout the school year
- Points to consider when deciding the best time to administer a CAA for Science embedded PT
- Basic information on the CAA for Science administration and test security
The online 2021–22 CAA for Science operational assessment consists of four embedded PTs. Test examiners should administer each embedded PT shortly after the student has received instruction on the related content. All four embedded PTs must be attempted for the student to count for participation.
The embedded PTs will be available in the CAASPP test delivery system on September 7, 2021. Test examiners can administer the embedded PTs at any time and in any order through the end of a school's instructional calendar or July 15, 2022, whichever comes first. Test examiners should use the planning template in the back of the guides to assist in scheduling embedded PTs to closely follow related instruction.
Test examiners who have questions about the CAA administration should address them to the CAASPP test site coordinator. CAASPP test site coordinators should address questions to the local educational agency (LEA) CAASPP coordinator. LEA CAASPP coordinators can address questions to the California Technical Assistance Center, by phone at 800-955-2954 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
