Register Now! 2023 Interim and Formative Assessment Training Series Fall Sessions

Dear California Educator:
The California Department of Education invites you to attend the 2023 Interim and Formative Assessment Training Series. Registration for fall sessions is now available! 
This engaging training series provides direct, online training focused on leveraging the interim and formative components of the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and the English Language Proficiency Assessment for California (ELPAC) comprehensive system of assessments to inform teaching and learning. It is designed for teachers, instructional coaches, and educators on special assignment, but local educational agency (LEA) test coordinators and administrators may also find this training series useful to further support educators.
The 2023 Interim and Formative Assessment Training Series is comprised of three distinct, independent modules with multiple opportunities to attend. Module 1 and Module 2 repeat the same content from the summer sessions and apply to Smarter Balanced, CAST, and ELPAC assessments collectively, while Module 3 includes separate hand scoring sessions tailored to specific assessments. Sessions offered in fall 2023 include:
Module 1: Using the Formative Assessment Process and Tools for Teachers Website to Boost Instruction
- What: Deep dive into formative assessment practices and resources, including an exploration of the Tools for Teachers website
- When: 1 to 3:30 p.m. on the following dates:
- Monday, September 25, 2023
- Monday, October 2, 2023
Module 2: Gauging Student Progress with the CAASPP and ELPAC Interim Assessments
- What: Deep dive into the CAASPP and ELPAC interim assessments and associated online systems and how to use these resources to support teaching and learning
- When: 1 to 3:30 p.m. on the following dates:
- Wednesday, September 27, 2023
- Wednesday, October 4, 2023
Module 3: Interim Assessment Hand Scoring
- What: In-depth instruction and practice in hand scoring interim assessments for the California Science Test (CAST) and ELPAC and how to use hand scoring resources to support teaching and learning
- 3C: Interim Assessment Hand Scoring—CAST
- When: 9:00 a.m. to noon on the following dates:
- Monday, October 30, 2023
- Thursday, November 2, 2023
- When: 9:00 a.m. to noon on the following dates:
- 3D: Interim Assessment Hand Scoring—ELPAC
- When: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the following dates:
- Monday, November 6, 2023
- Tuesday, November 7, 2023
- When: 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the following dates:
