CAASPP: Resources to Prepare for the 2023–24 California Alternate Assessments
CAASPP email update, September 11, 2023.
Dear LEA CAASPP Coordinator:
This email contains information about resources to prepare for the administration of the 2023–24 California Alternate Assessments (CAAs).
Form Assignments
Form assignments are available on the following web pages, which are searchable by county, LEA, school, or county/district/school code:
Please note that the assigned form number for the CAA for Science may be different than the assigned form number for the CAAs for ELA and mathematics.
CAA for Science Planning Guides
CAA for Science Administration Planning Guides are available to help with early planning and scheduling of the embedded performance tasks (PTs). The four embedded PTs should be administered as soon as related instruction is taught. The PTs can be administered in any order beginning September 19, 2023, through the end of the school year or July 15, 2024, whichever comes first.
Second Scoring for the CAA for ELA
Some LEAs assigned to Form 2 for the CAAs for ELA and mathematics will be required to participate in second scoring. Please use the Look Up Second Scoring Assignments search tool on the CAA for ELA Second Scoring Assignments web page to confirm if your school or LEA has been assigned second scoring.
Second scoring will require both a primary and a secondary test examiner to be present during testing. Secondary test examiners within the assigned schools should make sure to complete the "Second Scoring" portion of the CAAs for ELA and Mathematics section of the Test Examiner Tutorial.
CAA Test Examiner Tutorial
The CAA Test Examiner Tutorial for credentialed or licensed educators is available in the Moodle Training Site (Moodle) starting today on September 11, 2023.
The tutorial covers general information and highlights best practices for the administration of the CAAs. The CAA Test Examiner Tutorial does not contain any secure content.
Test examiners who have an account in the Test Operations Management System (TOMS) will receive an announcement later today regarding the availability of the tutorial, completion requirements, and how to access Moodle. LEA CAASPP coordinators are responsible for ensuring that test examiners have a TOMS account.
Moodle User Accounts
A Moodle user account is necessary to access the tutorial. Individuals who already have accounts do not need to create new ones. User accounts can be created individually by users through the Moodle logon web page or in bulk by the LEA CAASPP coordinator.
How to Create Moodle User Accounts in Bulk:
(Note: This action can only be done by the primary LEA CAASPP coordinator.)
- Access the CAASPP-ELPAC Administration and Scoring Training (AST)
website.
- Populate the template with names and emails.
- Email the populated template to moodlesupport@scoe.net.
Access Codes and Enrollment Key
The LEA CAASPP coordinator is responsible for distributing the Moodle enrollment key to appropriate staff. To find the enrollment key:
- Access the CAASPP-ELPAC AST
website.
- Enter the following access code for <LEA>: <passcode>.
- Select the [CAA Moodle Training Site] button.
The CAA Test Examiner Tutorial Moodle Template Letter is available on the CAAs web page. Customize and distribute this letter to communicate with staff about accessing the tutorial.
Completion Requirements
The CAA Test Examiner Tutorial contains three sections—General Requirements, CAA for Science, and CAAs for ELA and Mathematics. All CAA test examiners must complete the General Requirements section of the tutorial and at least one subject area section to receive a certificate of completion prior to administrating the CAAs in that subject area.
Test examiners will receive the CAA for Science Certificate of Completion upon completion of both the General Requirements and the CAA for Science sections, and/or the CAAs for ELA and Mathematics Certificate of Completion upon completing both the General Requirements and the CAAs for ELA and Mathematics sections.
Moodle Completion Reports
LEA coordinators can designate access to staff members to monitor test examiner completion of the tutorial.
How to Designate Access to Moodle Completion Reports:
- Identify the personnel who require reporting access.
- Log on to the CAASPP-ELPAC AST
website.
- Select the [CAA Moodle Training Site] button.
- Submit the appropriate names and email addresses and select the [Save] button.
Instructions on monitoring completion status is available in the Monitoring Training Completion Status chapter of the Moodle Training Site User Guide
.
